Frequently
asked Questions:
1. What steps are ICEFAT member companies taking to be
more in harmony with the environment?
The basics of a green
policy start with controlling waste and energy consumption such
as converting to a water filtration system instead of expensive
bottled water and recycling of paper and packing products. Most
governments have programs to assist with taking a measurement
of a companies environmental foot-print and this can lead to more
improvements of a green profile.
2. How do ICEFAT member companies reconcile the fact that
their core business is antithetical to energy conservation and
clean air practices?
Quite simply, it doesn't.
Some of us are switching locally operated vehicles to hybrid and
electrical trucks, but there is also the questions as to how ecologically
sound the source for the electricity is in the first place. We
promote the consolidation of art objects onto shuttle or part-load
vehicles in order to minimize the impact on the environment. When
a better technology arrives that makes sense for the planet and
the economy, ICEFAT will make all of its member companies aware
of these advancements.
3. Does an ICEFAT “green” company charge more
for its services?
Absolutely not. Ecologically
sound improvements in the way we do things and how we build our
infrastructure come at an up-front cost that is paid back over
a short period of time and results in an overall reduction in
static expenses. Therefore, it would be irresponsible to charge
more for services that could theoretically cost less to provide.
We’re in this for the long term.
4. Will ICEFAT member companies have a significant impact
on the environmental policies industry-wide?
It is our hope that
by raising the awareness of ecological issues and combining efforts
with other persons and committees in the international museum
community, we will have a greater impact on the companies that
support and cater to our small world. In time, big industry will
note our preference to patronize only those firms that are in
compliance with greener practices.
